ESSD has been organized annually since 2015, with a growing number of participating countries and students. In 2021, it reached over 3 million children in more than 9,000 schools across 41 countries on 4 continents.

The association KINEZIS, as the project coordinator for Bosnia and Herzegovina, encourages physical education teachers at all educational levels to participate in celebrating the European School Sports Day by organizing school sports competitions. ESSD is traditionally marked on the last Friday of September. Teachers can register their schools by completing the form here: https://www.essd.eu/hr/registration-15/

After registration, teachers organize sports competitions and workshops in their schools to celebrate ESSD. Upon completion, teachers should submit a report on the number of children who participated in the activities. Afterwards, they will receive a certificate of participation and join this global initiative.

Our association is a partner in an Erasmus+ project led by the Hungarian School Sports Federation. The project’s goal is to use mobility and exchange of best practices to develop individual competencies and organizational networks that will encourage sports participation and foster cooperation between 5 Western Balkan countries and 5 EU partner countries.

The first mobility activity of the GEM project (Grassroots Exchange and Mobility – Empowering Youth Sport Professionals) was a meeting organized by our association in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from April 29 to May 2, 2022. Alongside KINEZIS, the meeting included 10 organizations: Hungarian School Sports Federation, Youth Sport Trust International, ISCA – International Sport and Culture Association, EUPEA – European Physical Education Association, Albanian School Sports Federation, Federation of Sport Pedagogues of Macedonia, Serbian School Sport Federation, Deporte para la Educación y la Salud, and Together Advancing Common Trust.

On the first day, Franjo Lovrić, president of the association Zdrav život – KINEZIS, welcomed the participants of the “Let Kids Run” conference. The conference featured five lectures covering various topics related to the three dimensions of the project.

Under the title “The Irreplaceable Role of Physical Activity,” Assistant Professor Ivana Kujundžić Lujan presented scientific research on the amount of physical activity among youth and adults in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dženan Šuta, president of the Mostar City Sports Federation, gave a presentation on “School Sports in the City of Mostar.” Then, Vivienne Holt, International Operations Manager of Youth Sport Trust International, spoke about “The Importance and Models of Fundamental Movement Skills Application.”
Xheni Dimraj, representative of the Albanian School Sports Federation, shared good practices in training kindergarten educators.
The conference concluded with a presentation by Dr. Claude Scheuer, president of the European Physical Education Association (EUPEA), who introduced “Erasmus+ projects of their association in the field of physical education and physical activity.”

In the afternoon, participants had the opportunity to volunteer at the “Let Kids Run” race, where 350 children took part in outdoor running. The race aims to promote the importance of movement and sports activities for all children, not just the best or most motorically skilled. Accordingly, no winners are announced in this race; all children receive medals.

Sunday’s program was dedicated to practical volunteering experience. Participants volunteered at the “Du Motion” event in Dubrovnik. The two-day professional program ended with an evaluation of activities, which all participants rated as highly successful.
